The charity National Debtline estimates that more than eight million people in the UK have financial difficulties that can feel overwhelming. They have advice and guidance for people who have been financially impacted by coronavirus including advice for the self-employed and for those who have been made redundant. Money can also be a worry if you or a family member need to take time off work as a result of illness or to care for someone with a terminal illness, but there is support available. Ask a GP, hospital doctor or nurse to refer you to a hospital social worker or community social worker. They can assess your financial situation and give you advice on benefits. It can be hard to know where to turn when we’re struggling with our mental health but support is available, from NHS and council-commissioned services to local and national charities. Many services are free, confidential, and you can access them yourself without a referral from a professional.
